So, I’ve been spending some time on Muzmatch (lol) in the hope of finding a spouse, 2018-style. This experience has come with moments of outright comedy gold (read the Men of Muzmatch blog post) and of course, some moments of deep concern where I have worried about the state of humanity (read the My week on Muzmatch *shudders* blog post). This post however, is pretty darn juicy…it’s the story of how I got brave af one day and went from innocent online chats to a secret offline date.

But, what is the conclusion of this gone-too-far social experiment? Did I really and truly find love? Did I stumble across the man of my dreams? Was it seriously love at first swipe? Well readers, do I have a story to tell you – and boy, sh*t got deep real quick…

So, having spent some time on the Muzmatch app, my ability to small talk rapidly improved. I’ll be honest that whilst there were some chats that were a bit slow and sparse, there were others who were a bit keener to make conversation. That, I can appreciate.

But there was one in particular who could not just make conversation, but hold it. There was some decent levels of banter being thrown around, and it seemed a proper Beatrice-and-Benedick repartee was blossoming…(if you don’t get that reference, go read some Shakespeare).

“What happened next UAG??!” I hear you silently squeal! Well, readers, we decided to meet up, in person…alone. (I told you, this post was juicy…)

Yes. That’s right. I had agreed to meet with someone, who I’d only be talking to through an online app, for coffee. And for those of you who, like me, have <0.5% experience in this department, I can tell you now, that it was F*CKING TERRIFYING.

Now, hindsight is a wonderful thing…and with it, I can say, meeting someone offline, you met online, is not something I promote nor encourage. This was essentially a stranger I was meeting. It can be super dangerous, and I almost certainly should’ve had someone with me (I almost had my close friends go truly UAG in the coffee shop we were due to meet in…). I got lucky though. The guy I met that fateful day, was the guy of the profile – I wasn’t talking to some dodgy catfish. After getting over the initial awkward-laughter-phase, we finally got chatting whilst drinking some warm beverages in a cute, rustic coffee shop nestled in and amongst the hubbub of the City.
